Subject: Peridex On Call for PeriOp Powerplans
Good afternoon,
Chlorhexidine (Peridex) has been added to multiple PeriOp powerplans. You will begin to see the on call order on any of the newly entered powerplans listed below going forward.
Order details:
chlorhexidine topical (Peridex 0.12%) 15 mL oral liquid ON CALL
with comments:
On Call for patients greater than 14 years old having general anesthesia.
Instruct patient to swish and gargle Peridex solution for at least 30 seconds then expectorate. Instruct patient not to swallow. On Call to OR. If sensitivity or severe local irritation to peridex medication occurs, discontinue use of the medication and notify NP/MD.
*If the patient is < 14 years old, Peridex should not be initiated.* This will be filtered by age on the Pediatric Ortho/Surg powerplans only.
