Subject: Movantik Project Implementation
Good afternoon,

I wanted to share a change that will be implemented next Tuesday (2/1). My major project is evaluating the use of Movantik in patients undergoing bowel resection surgery in place of Entereg. Movantik will be added to the following PowerPlans:

Pre Op:
COLOREC Colon / Bowel  Surgery ERAS In House Pre Op
COLOREC Colon ERAS PeriOp Hospital Phased
Post Op:
COLOREC Abdominal Surgery Post Op
GENSURG General Surgery Postop

Dr. Spindler, Dr. Hunt, and Dr. Zelickson have agreed to use Movantik in all of their patients in place of Entereg, however it will be available for any surgeon that utilizes the above PowerPlans. Order comments will be associated with both the pre-op and post-op Movantik orders. Pre-Op order comments read: "Order Comment: Give in pre-op holding 30 minutes to 5 hours prior to surgery with a sip of water. Pharmacy to renally adjust if CrCl < 60 mL/min" and post-op order comments read: "Begin POD#1 at 0900. Give with small sip of water. Discontinue after patient’s first bowel movement, or after 7 total doses, or at time of discharge, whichever comes first. Pharmacy to renally adjust if CrCl < 60 mL/min."  Movantik is not associated with the same REMs requirements as Entereg and will not require pharmacists to ensure the same REMs requirements are met. However, you will notice a new Sentri rule that flags patients prescribed Movantik as it is renally adjusted with CrCl < 60 mL/min. The standard dose of Movantik is 25 mg while the renally adjusted dose is 12.5 mg. The physicians are aware pharmacy will adjust doses in patients with CrCl < 60 mL/min to 12.5 mg.

Please let me or Jonathan Spry know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks!
Lizzy
