Subject: Sodium Chloride 0.9% IV Bolus Formulary Changes: Tuesday, Jan 4

Effective Tuesday, January 4 we will be removing the duplicated sodium chloride 0.9% “IV Bolus” products from the formulary.  You will no longer see these product options for Normal Saline appear when searching in MedManager.

After this change, orders for an IV Bolus route for these products will product assign to the ‘standard’ IV Soln products instead (order verification example below) which will still be treated as a Med Type (does not require a rate entered on the order).

Of note, after this change, if you are entering an order for one of the ‘standard’ IV Soln products directly into MedManager/PharmNET, you will be prompted to choose between Med/Intermittent/Continuous type.  If the order is meant to be an IV BOLUS, please choose the MED type so that a rate is not required on the order.

Recall the appropriate order types and corresponding IV routes:

Medication Type: IV Push, IV Bolus, Slow IV Push

Intermittent Type: IV Piggyback, IV Syringe

Continuous Type: IV, IV Syringe-Cont

We are starting with Sodium Chloride 0.9% (NS) Bolus products first and will expand to remove other bolus products (D5W/LR) as long as no issues are experienced with this change.

If you have any questions or experience any issues following this change, please reach out to PharmIT Group.  Thank you.
