Subject: Parenteral Certification

This year the ALBOP added new requirements for maintaining parenteral certification for all pharmacists.

From the ALBOP website:

Renewal CE: All pharmacists approved by ALBOP as parenteral pharmacists must successfully complete 2 hours of CE approved by the Board, including didactic and hands on training each renewal cycle.

It shall be the responsibility of the supervising pharmacist to verify the parenteral certification of pharmacists involved in the preparation of parenteral products.

All current staff who regularly work in a PSP area (HH, HHWC, Madison) will complete an annual competency review in January 2022.  The CBLs in NetLearning and media fill/glove tip testing performed at Huntsville Hospital have been approved by ALBOP to satisfy the 2-hour CE requirement and the hands-on training for renewal of certification.

Many of you have a parenteral certification but do not currently staff in a PSP area. If you wish to keep your parenteral certification active, you will need to complete these requirements at an approved site. We will be happy to schedule a time after January for any pharmacist who currently wishes to renew their parenteral certification.  Please contact Eric Franks to schedule a date between March and October of 2022.
