Subject: heparin bag backorder

Heparin 25,000 units/250 mL 1/2NS bags are on backorder.
 
We were able to purchase heparin 25,000 units/250 mL D5W.
 
During the backorder, the different fluid types will be interchangeable. Cerner will maintain the 1/2NS fluid name, but the Pyxis may contain either fluid. A Pyxis pop-up will alert the nurse that the fluid may be D5W. Either type bag will scan at the Pyxis and at the bedside.
 
We will return to heparin 25,000 units/250 mL 1/2NS bags as soon as they are available.
