Subject: Sodium acetate - now restricted

PSP informed us today of shortage with Sodium Acetate. Sodium Bicarbonate IV is also on shortage.

With current usage, the hospital will be out of Sodium Acetate in about 10 days.

To help conserve sodium acetate the following will begin starting tomorrow :

Remove Sodium Acetate from Adult TPNs

Restrict Sodium Acetate to pediatrics/neonatal TPN use

Potassium Acetate remains unrestricted (if patient can tolerate) at this time.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks
