Good Afternoon Fellow Pharmacists,

Just letting you know we have added two order sentences to Cerner for Keppra IV push, a 1 gm and 2 gm. There has been increasing literature and places doing undiluted Keppra 1-2 min IV push in doses up to 4.5 gm. Since more and more facilities are doing this, figured it was only a matter of time that our MDs tried to order. The two sentences were uploaded earlier this month and evidently two MDs have found this already.

Donna and Eric are deciding who will dispense these vials for the doses (but looks like Central may dispense since all the RN needs is the vial)

If you would like references for this please contact me. Also at the last SERC a resident presented changing their hospital over to that. And if you are interested in numbers 500 mg vial = $1.52; 500 mg IVPG = $8.76; 1 gm IVPG = 11.16; 1500 mg IVPG = $14.85. Per Donna we waste several 750 mg IVPG that IV room has to make.
