Timing Padding Pharmacists 15 min

Change to Time Order Padding Effective Tuesday, March 30

Based on feedback of potential delay in treatment issues presented by the Time Order Padding (+60 minutes) introduced with the recent Cerner Upgrade, we will be modifying this time padding to +15 minutes effective Tuesday, March 30.  The removal of the time padding from procedural areas will remain, but all other areas will change to the 15 minute padding instead of 60 minute.  Please see attached documentation which describes the behavior of this change compared to current state +60 minute padding.  Please let us know any feedback (positive or negative) encountered with this modification.  Thank you.

Subject: Time Padding Update

Hey everyone,

We have received a large amount of feedback pertaining to the time padding update in Cerner. After discussing your concerns and working through possible solutions, it was concluded to reduce the time padding from +60 minutes to +15 minutes. We are planning to go-live with this update next TuesdayMarch 30th. Educational resources for this update will be sent out prior to go-live.

Additionally, I want to stress the importance of reviewing the start time of ALL medications upon your initial verification. If the padding causes the start time to be out farther than what the patient clinically needs, the pharmacist should use their judgment and adjust the start date/time at verification to an earlier date/time. This will further prevent the possibility of a delay in therapy occurring secondary to the time padding. In HRO terms, its a crucial time to have a S.T.A.R. moment and thoroughly review your work after verification to confirm the accuracy of the order. Again, thank you for providing feedback with this matter and for your continuous dedication to keeping our patients safe.
