As most of you have heard, we will be going live with PropoVEN 2% in the MICUs (4NE and 4MST) and the CCUs (6NE and 6NW), on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Your supervisors and leads will be providing more education before go-live, but I wanted to provide you with our materials for your reference.
- There is a picture of the PropoVEN 2% vial with warning stickers applied...if seen outside of the MICU/CCU (or Central Pharmacy), something is probably wrong. (There is the possibility that a patient in MICU/CCU on a PropoVEN drip goes down to Cath Lab, OR, Endo, or Interventional Rad...that is OK)
- There are separate fliers for Central Pharmacy at Main and UB Pharmacists...there are checklists for each area (KNOW WHY & COMPLY); additionally, a separate flier is being provided to Nursing
- There is a Standard Operating Provedure document for this process
- There is a document entitled HH Huddles...this in the info we posted on Pulse.
In addition to KNOW WHY & COMPLY, this is a situation where our HRO tool STAR...Stop, Think, Act, Review... can be utilized to optimize patient safety. When verifying, dispensing, or stocking propofol, STOP for just a second, THINK about the product and the patient location, take ACTION to make any needed adjustments to the order or product chosen, then REVIEW the whole process one last time.
If you have any questions, please contact me or your supervisor. DAVID
