Subject: sterile water

We are down to only 13 bags of 1L sterile water. At this point, it is imperative that we convert all orders requiring preparation with sterile water (mainly 1/4 NS and bicarb drips) to an alternate fluid; indicated TPNs are still OK since we have a decent supply of 2L sterile water, but it is also expected to go short in the next few weeks.

Beginning immediately, please work with your prescribers to change bicarb drips to a fluid other than sterile water as well as converting 1/4 NS to another product. If there is a patient who ABSOLUTELY must have a product prepared in sterile water, communicate with PSP to relay this need and make sure that we still have product available. DAVID
