Subject: Adult Electrolyte Protocol - reducing need for separate implementation page

Another change with the house wide ADULT electrolyte protocol [to decrease nursing time and duplication of work] has been initiated.

On Thursday , iCare was updated to automatically generate the Implementation orders if an order set is being used that includes wording to start the electrolyte protocol.

Example : Adult Medicine order set is used to admit a patient to 7 North. If the box is checked for "Adult Electrolyte Protocol if/when patient meets criteria,' the Implementation orders will be generated through order entry of the Adult Medicine order set; the Adult Electrolyte Protocol Implementation order page is not required.

The Adult Electrolyte Implementation page will only need to be completed, in most cases, if the order to start the electrolyte protocol is written on a green order sheet or as a typed-in order on a CPOE blue page.

A CBL for order entry is available on NetLearning. Additional resources detailing the changes to the Adult Electrolyte Protocol can be found on Pulse or by contacting Jerry Robinson via email.

Thanks.
