Bacitracin (Injection)

Nephrotoxicity

  • Tubular and glomerular necrosis associated with parenteral (IM) use.
  • Restrict use to infants with staphylococcal pneumonia or empyema due to susceptible organisms.
  • Use only where adequate laboratory facilities are available and constant supervision of patient is possible.
  • Avoid concurrent nephrotoxic drugs(e.g. streptomycin, kanamycin, polymixin B, colistin, neomycin)
  • Monitor renal function at baseline and daily during therapy
  • Do not exceed recommended daily dose
  • Maintain fluid intake and urinary output at proper levels to avoid kidney toxicity.
