Regarding possible use for teething, FDA notes: "Topical Drugs and Teething Jewelry Used for Teething Have Risks. Topical medications (used on the surface of the gums) containing benzocaine or lidocaine offer little to no benefit and are associated with serious risks when used for teething pain in children. These include creams, gels, and homeopathic teething tablets."
