  • GI: nausea, vomiting, constipation
  • agitation
  • itching

Intravenous (IV) orders will be automatically converted to enteral (PO) product for eligible patients.  See Protocol 916.6007

IV Acetaminophen (Ofirmev) is a restricted formulary drug:

Surgical Patients:
- Preoperative use: only for use in patients with non-functioning GI tract or who cannot swallow medication with sip of water.
- Intraoperative use: not permitted
- Postoperative use: a surgical patient may receive IV acetaminophen if needed and NPO, for up to 24 hours. Use for greater than 24 hours may only be continued for patients with a non-functioning GI tract.

Non-surgical patients:
Usage is restricted to patients who cannot receive any oral medications and have one of the following clinical scenarios:
   - Non-functioning GI tract
   - Aspiration risk
   - Dysphagia
   - Intractable nausea and vomiting
