Comments:

Rare use expected for resistant cases of TB, including meningitis or brain abscess.  Limited information exists to support the use of ethionamide for these indications as part of a 4-drug regimen.

 

Alternatives include ethambutol or an aminoglycoside (to be used in combination with isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide).
