Comments:

ISMP recommended Tall Man Letters MORPHine. Errors have resulted from mix-ups between the abbreviations "MgSO4" for magnesium sulfate and "MS" or "MSO4" for morphine sulfate. Double-checks for appropriateness of drug/dose/pump setting/line placement must be performed during PCA/Epidural use.

The High Risk/High Alert Medication Policy may be found by using the search function in Policies and Procedures.

For oral morphine syringes for the NICU, use the 0.5 mg/1 ml concentration (5 mg/10 ml injection PF)

Capsules may not be opened and given by NG tube.
