Comments:

Inform prescriber that the first 24 hours of dosing will be provided; however an infectious disease consult must be initiated by the ordering physician at the time the drug is ordered for it to be continued past 24 hours. 

Exception:  One-time dose allowed without ID consult for surgical prophylaxis for colorectal surgeries only.
