Comments:

When NICU needs Infasurf for a possible transport to Genesis, send the requested number of 3 ml vials and do not draw up in a syringe. If needed, the nurse will draw up the dose from the vial(s) we issue. If not used, the vials may be returned to stock. The date and time need to be recorded on the carton when Infasurf is removed from the refrigerator. Unopened, unused vials of Infasurf that have warmed to room temperature can be returned to refrigerated storage within 24 hours for future use. Infasurf should not be removed from the refrigerator for more than 24 hours and should not be returned to the refrigerator more than once. Repeated warming to room temperature should be avoided. Please note, this process is only for possible transport patients, not for current inpatients.
