Medications for Opioid Use Disorder

Situation

The medications for opioid use disorder class review and formulary standardization was approved at the December 2021 System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meeting.

Background

The following medications were reviewed: buprenorphine, buprenorphine-naloxone, methadone

Assessment/Recommendation

Changes effective: Tuesday, February 8, 2022

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Medication Formulary:

  • Buprenorphine SL tablet
  • Buprenorphine and naloxone SL film and SL tablet
  • Methadone oral concentrated solution, non-concentrated oral solution, tablet

Note: Stock of these formulary products may vary at individual entities

As a result, the following products will be removed from the UNC Health Medication Formulary

  • Buprenorphine ER subcutaneous injection
  • Buprenorphine and naloxone buccal film
  • Methadone oral soluble tablet
