System Formulary Update
Intravenous Immune Globulin (Formulary Standardization)

Situation 

The intravenous immune globulins (IVIG) formulary standardization was approved at the September 2025 System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meeting. 

 

Background 

The following medications were reviewed: 

  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 10% solution (Privigen) 
  • 50 mL vial, 100 mL vial, 200 mL vial, 400 mL vial 
  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 5% powder for solution (Gammagard S/D) 
  • 5 g kit, 10 g kit 
  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 10% solution (Gamunex-C) 
  • 50 mL vial, 100 mL vial, 200 mL vial, 400 mL vial 
  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 10% solution (Gammagard Liquid) 
  • 200 mL vial 

 

Assessment/Recommendation 

Changes effective: Tuesday, November 4th 2025 

 

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Medication Formulary: 

  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 10% solution (Privigen) 
  • 50 mL vial, 100 mL vial, 200 mL vial, 400 mL vial 
  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 5% powder for solution (Gammagard S/D) 
  • 5 g kit, 10 g kit 

 

Gammagard S/D use will be restricted to patients with a low serum IgA level (<7 mg/dl), documented IgA antibodies, or history of hypersensitivity to IVIG 

 

Note: Stock of these formulary products may vary at individual entities 

 

As a result, the following products will be removed from the UNC Health Medication Formulary 

  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 10% solution (Gamunex-C) 
  • 50 mL vial, 100 mL vial, 200 mL vial, 400 mL vial 
  • Immune Globulin Intravenous, 10% solution (Gammagard Liquid) 
  • 200 mL vial
