System Formulary Update
GI (Colonoscopy) Preparation Agents Class Standardization

Situation: The Gastrointestinal (Colonoscopy) Preparation Agents class review and formulary standardization was approved at the April 2025 System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meeting.

Background: The following medications were reviewed:

  • Polyethylene glycol 3350 (Miralax) 238 g oral solution
  • PEG 3350, sodium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride 4000 mL (GoLYTELY, Gavilyte, generic) oral powder for solution
  • Sodium sulfate 17.5 g, potassium sulfate 3.13 g, magnesium sulfate 1.6 g (SUPREP) oral solution
  • PEG 3350 100 g, sodium sulfate 9 g, sodium chloride 2 g, potassium chloride 1 g (PLENVU) powder packet
  • PEG 3350 100 g, sodium sulfate 7.5 g, sodium chloride 2.69 g, potassium chloride 1.02 g, ascorbic acid 4.7 g, sodium ascorbate 5.9 g (MoviPrep) powder packet

Assessment/Recommendation

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Medication Formulary:

  • Polyethylene glycol 3350 238 g oral solution
  • PEG 3350, sodium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride 4000 mL (GoLYTELY, Gavilyte, generic) oral powder for solution
  • Sodium sulfate 17.5 g, potassium sulfate 3.13 g, magnesium sulfate 1.6 g (SUPREP) oral solution

Note: Stock of these formulary products may vary at individual entities

As a result, the following products will be removed from the UNC Health Medication Formulary

  • Ascorbic Acid; Polyethylene Glycol 3350; Potassium Chloride; Sodium Ascorbate; Sodium Chloride; Sodium Sulfate (MoviPrep)

Formulary/Epic Changes will Go-Live on Tuesday, July 8th
