System Formulary Update
Pneumococcal Vaccines

Situation:

The pneumococcal vaccines class review was approved by the System Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee in November 2024. 

Background:

The following vaccines were reviewed: PCV13 (Prevnar 13); PCV15 (Vaxneuvance); PCV20 (Prevnar 20); PCV21 (Capvaxive); PPSV23 (Pneumovax 23). 

Assessment/Recommendations: 

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Care System Medication Formulary:

• PCV20 (Prevnar 20)
  • Use restricted to pediatric patients

• PCV21 (Capvaxive)

Note: Stock of these formulary products may vary at individual entities

Formulary/Epic Changes will Go-Live on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
