Intraocular Viscoelastics Standardization

Situation

The intraocular viscoelastics standardization was approved at the System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meeting.

Background

The following therapeutic interchange was reviewed: Amvisc, Amvisc Plus, DisCoVisc, OcuCoat, Provisc, Viscoat, Duovisc, Healon5 Pro, Healon EndoCoat, and Healon Duet

Assessment/ Recommendations:

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health System Drug Formulary:

Sodium hyaluronate
- Intraocular solution: 10 mg/mL (0.55 mL, 0.85 mL), 12 mg/mL (0.8 mL), 16 mg/mL (0.8 mL), 23 mg/mL (0.6 mL), 30 mg/mL (0.85 mL)
Sodium chondroitin-hyaluronate
- intraocular solution: 40 mg/mL- 30 mg/mL (0.5 mL), 40 mg/mL-17 mg/mL (1mL)
- intraocular kits: 0.35 mL-0.4 mL (Duovisc), 0.55 mL-0.85 mL (Healon Duet)
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose
- Intraocular solution: 2% (1 mL)
