System Formulary Update
Class Standardization: Tetracyclines

Situation

The tetracyclines class review standardization was approved in May 2023. 

Background

The following products were reviewed: demeclocycline tablets, doxycycline capsules, doxycycline capsules DR, doxycycline injection, doxycycline oral suspension, doxycycline tablets, doxycycline tablets DR, eravacycline injection, minocycline capsules, minocycline capsules ER, minocycline injection, minocycline tablets, minocycline tablets ER, omadacycline injection, omadacycline tablets, sarecycline tablets, tigecycline injection.

Assessment/Recommendations

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health System Drug Formulary:

  • Doxycycline 100 mg injection
  • Doxycycline 5 mg/mL (60 mL) oral suspension
  • Doxycycline 100 mg tablets
  • Eravacycline 50 mg injection
  • Minocycline 50 mg capsules
  • Minocycline 100 mg capsules
  • Tetracycline 500 mg capsules

As a result, the following products will be removed from the inpatient drug formulary:

  • Demeclocycline 150 mg tablets
  • Doxycycline 100 mg capsules

Note: Stock of this formulary product may vary at individual entities

Formulary/Epic changes will Go-Live on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
