Situation
The human recombinant Factor VIII product standardization was approved by the System Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee in September 2022.
Background
The following medications were reviewed: factor VIII recombinant (Xyntha, Advate, Kogenate, Recombinate)
Assessment/Recommendations
System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Care System Drug Formulary:
- Factor VIII recombinant (Xyntha)
- Factor VIII orders extending beyond a one-time order for emergency use must be approved by Hematology/Oncology Services
System P&T voted to exclude the following products on the UNC Health Care System Drug Formulary:
- Factor VIII recombinant (Advate)
- Factor VIII recombinant (Kogenate)
- Factor VIII recombinant (Recombinate)
Note: Stock of these formulary products may vary at individual entities
