Omega-3 Acid Ethyl Esters (Lovaza)

Situation

Lovaza (omega-3 ethyl esters) 1 g capsule was approved for addition to the health system formulary at the August 2022 System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meeting.

Background

The following medication was reviewed: Lovaza (omega-3 ethyl esters) 1 g capsule

Assessment/Recommendations

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Medication Formulary:

• Lovaza (omega-3 ethyl esters) 1 g capsule

Note: OTC omega-3 preparations are not approved for addition; this addition extends to Lovaza and AB-rated generics. 

Formulary/Epic changes will Go-Live on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
