System Formulary Update
Antihelminthics

Situation
The antihelminthics class review and formulary standardization was approved by the System Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee in August 2019.

Background
The following medications were reviewed: albendazole, ivermectin, praziquantel, mebendazole, pyrantel pamoate, triclabendazole

Assessment/Recommendation
Changes Effective: Tuesday, October 13, 2020

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Medication Formulary: 

• Albendazole 200 mg tablets 
• Ivermectin 3 mg tablets 
• Praziquantel 600 mg tablets 

Note: Stock of these products may vary at individual entities

As a result, the following products will be removed from the UNC Health Medication Formulary: 

• Mebendazole 100 mg chewable tablet 
• Pyrantel pamoate 50 mg/mL oral suspension 
• Ivermectin 1% cream
