Adamantanes

Situation
The adamantane class review and formulary standardization was approved by the System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee in June 2020.

Background
The following medications were reviewed: amantadine, rimantadine

Assessment/Recommendation
Changes Effective: Tuesday, October 13, 2020

System P&T voted to include the following products on the UNC Health Medication Formulary: 

• Amantadine capsule: 100 mg 
• Amantadine oral syrup: 50 mg/5 mL 

Note: Stock of these products may vary at individual entities

As a result, the following products will be removed from the UNC Health Medication Formulary: 

• Amantadine tablet: 100 mg 
• Rimantadine tablet: 100 mg
