About Us

What distinguishes Formulary Productions from other companies?

  1. Core competency: Formulary management software is our core business, not just an add-on or an afterthought.
  2. Customer service: In addition to making a premier product, we also offer unparalleled customer service. We train clients thoroughly and invite phone calls or online case submissions when clients have questions. Our support staff will assist in any way they can to help clients make their FormWeb sites work just the way they want.
  3. Communication: We enable clients to communicate essential medication safety information to their pharmacists, physicians and nurses. We are proud that the product we create and support is an important component in the life-saving work performed every day at healthcare facilities.
  4. Community: One of our clients described FormWeb as “a community of pharmacists sharing best practices to improve the practice of pharmacy.” We believe that when smart people work together respectfully, the outcomes can be amazing.

A short history:

  • In 1990, Fred and Judy Wimmer begin publishing customized formulary handbooks.
The Wimmers had been in the printing industry for many years. In 1968, they printed the now-famous I Am a Man signs that were carried in the sanitation workers’ strike which led to Dr. Martin Luther King’s last visit to Memphis.
  • In 1998, Formulary Productions was the first company ever to produce a custom online formulary.
The University of Wisconsin wanted to take advantage of the ever-expanding reach of the ”internet” and asked us to put their formulary database online, making it possible for them to make real-time updates. They cheered because no longer would they have to deal with “out of date as soon as it’s printed” handbooks!
  • In 2000, Laura Paxton was hired as President.
At first, Fred Wimmer offered her a job as his assistant. Laura, previously having run a $50 million business unit at GE, declined, but told him she would be glad to run the whole Formulary Productions operation.
  • In 2001, we added a customized website as part of FormWeb, enabling customers to link to information from the internet and their intranet, as well as access their electronic formulary.
You should have seen the crowd of people at our booth at ASHP Midyear.
  • In 2001, John Paxton joined the company as Director of Sales.
His years of experience in the medical device business at Guidant Corporation proved invaluable as the number of Formulary Productions clients grew tremendously.
  • In 2004, Fred & Judy Wimmer sold the business to Laura & John Paxton.
  • In 2004, Formulary Productions introduced a Black Box Warning website.
Contrary to conventional practice, this essential medication safety information is offered at no charge.
  • In 2006, Formulary Productions was recognized with an ISMP Cheers Award for providing the Black Box Warning information to the public.
  • Today, Formulary Productions serves thousands of clinicians on a daily basis in 87 countries.
Other companies have entered the market, but we remain the leader in customized online formularies and medication safety content management. And our customers love us!
